Day Two – What a Buffalo !

Thursday – arising at 5:30 feels tougher the second day. But nobody said this was a walk in the park. Although cloudier than Wednesday, this actually made photography easier – less violent contrast between light and shade.

Awww – baby elephant suckling .

Start the day with BDO !

Another in our ever-popular ” Bits Dropping Off”  series . This time , featuring a vehicle owned by someone else !!

We had not gone more than 20 minutes when Lungi announced there was a Funny Noise ….and determined we had a rip in a rear tyre. (Amazing it had lasted this long, what with the 3 inch thorns, sharp stones, lunatic driving style etc ). We all evacuated and he proceeded to jack it up with a serious hydraulic lift :

However – what goes up doesn’t always come down .  The lever refused to disengage and let the vehicle drop back down. After much useless broddling, our driver just wedged a couple of rocks under the new tyre to give it some grip, got back into the vehicle, and drove it off the jack . Ker-plunk.

After which the actual game drive yielded some new sights :

The small five are a humourous take on the famous Big Five prized by hunters – Water Buffalo, Lion, Elephant, Leopard and Rhino.  Inc Elephant Shrew and Leopard Tortoise.  And a Rhino Plasty or something.
