Not yet completely gorged-out, we thought we’d have one final visit, this time by bike. We followed the same Route de Crêtes circuit as we’d done by car nearly a week ago – only with more stopping, panting and wheezing. Weather was hazy, still got good views of vultures cruising the updrafts, and taking the hairpin bends down on the far side was just brilliant.

On the way back we took a side road to Rougon, where we had heard that vulture feeding sometimes takes place. Not today, but it was still a cute little mountainside village.
