How Stean Gorge cafe ( Nidderdale) has hit on a novel way to attract trade during the quiet autumn months : their Ledge ‘n’ Dairy offer.
Why not enjoy an appalling pun with a selection of local cheeses ( and brie) , while suspended above the Gorge in all weathers ?
Rude not to find out…..

Once harnessed up and lowered down, it was actually rather peaceful . Bit of background meditation ( bird song, your gurgling beck), pretty autumnal leaves …
And then LO ! – manna from heaven !

Blessed are the cheese munchers , for a tray of assorted dairy produce shall be lowered into them.

So we chatted and chomped and dangled, and generally had a most pleasant time. Slight challenge when climbing back up (navigating a fixed ladder / swinging platform combo with a frozen shoulder was a bit tricky), but all good.
We went on up to Middlesmoor at the very top of the valley to pay our respects to Viv – today would have been her 90th birthday.
This was her favourite view of Nidderdale – wreathed in a mournful mist today, but nonetheless glorious.

You did it! Quite a special day, by the sound of it.
An interesting afternoon tea – but where’s the teapot! I had a lovely birthday in the van at the Crown in Nidderdale.
Tragically, no tea was provided. Possibly H&S team had flagged risks associated with boiling water being lowered down to the punters …..
Ooh, and I meant to add : they are planning to extend the offer next year to include not just European cheeses , but also samples of French Literature while you dangle.
Look out for ….. Gorge ‘n’ Zola.
