Bits Dropping Off, part 15

Left the beautifully secluded and green Veerse Gat  campsite this morning, bidding goodbye to Marie and Andrew and their tent-boxed Defender, and drove to Lianne’s sister’s place in Belgium.

On arrival, I came across a whole new area of van maintenance. The bench seats in the caravan are folded up vertically for travel ( so we can fit the bikes in), and on trying to reset them to the bed configuration, I found a certain amount of undesirable floppiness ( the old problem).   On closer inspection, I could see that half of the screws meant to secure the hinges of the aluminium seat frame were missing or very loose.

Anybody seen 3 more of these ?? (PH1 screwdriver tip for scale)

2 spares were located in the jamjar which L  uses to store small BDOs (*) we have found through the ages, and I made creative use of some double sided sticky pads to keep one in a hole which is now mysteriously too wide for it. I’m sure it will be fine. Probably.  But I’m sleeping on the other side just in case.

(*) Bits Dropping Offoften these are screws , bolts, nuts,  but sometimes we find excitingly unidentifiable bits that seem important . We harvest them from the floor, and they go into the transplant jar under the cooker for future reference. It’s jolly exciting when you eventually find out where they fit.
