Hawaii We Go

A week to go before departure seems bags of time to start vaguely thinking about what we do on the next post-retirement adventure – Hawaii, in February

The Hawaiian Islands. (Yorkshire is up a bit and to the right )

These are the Hawaiian Islands, volcanic peaks sticking out of the middle of the Pacific Ocean, quite a long way from Yorkshire. Properly, the name Hawaii refers just to the southernmost of them ( now generally ” Big Island”) – and that’s where we will be mostly be staying through February. My old mate Van Eden and his dynamic partner, Marilyn, have kindly offered us non-flammable accomodation at their house, conveniently located right next to an active volcano.

Just a molten
stone’s throw from the volcano…

About 20 miles west of his place is an active volcano called Kilauea…. We are due to cycle up to it and stay in the blast zone …

Kilauea in action

Which is nice 🫣

After which we will all stay on the west of the island ( Kona) to recuperate , before Lianne and I fly up to the northernmost island (Kauai) for some camping.
