Brake like the wind !

10 days ago we squeaked into Castellane with tortured squealing from the caravan brakes and a worry that the brake shoes were shot.

Today’s big question was : how would they sound when we pulled out again ? If it had indeed been just over-heating, we should be ok, otherwise – another expensive foreign garage bill /  trip disruption.

The Problem Area – Bits Dripping Off, or BAU ?

Well, the BDO update is :  brakes are not broke ! We are OFF!!

Having given up on the Swiss plan (full of holes as it was), we are instead heading north again. My esteemed navigator had worked her usual magic and found what looked a very promising site in a small mountainside village just north of Grenoble,  Sappey-en-Chartreuse.

Normally municipal sites are grim places , but having seen many positive reviews, we decided to give it a go. And it gets a thumbs up. We’ve only seen one member of staff so far – Christophe. He single handedly mans the reception, cleans the facilities, gives weather updates , supplies maps / walking directions, and emanates boundless positivity.  Sound chap. We decided to make a BBQ to celebrate our safe arrival . As soon as I’d got the wood burned down nicely, rain started. I speed-cooked the grub under cover of an umbrella, and as we ate in the awning, a storm of biblical proportions crashed onto the scene. Almost simultaneous thunder and lightning, pouring rain, hailstones…everything bar the frogs and locusts.

And through the roof too… But it’s our neighbours in tents that I feel sorry for .

What we used to call in IT development a “soak test” ..

On the positive side – it hasn’t half blasted the car clean !
