Friday 17 Feb
Well, all I can say is that the State Park shuttle service are wimps. We spent the whole day outdoors with not a spot of rain, and hardly any wind. We walked a trail up into the hills not far from the park and were not washed away by torrential flooding. We swam on Anani Beach without being swept out to sea by hurricanes.
Pah.
Started out with a walk along Hanalei beach (which may have been the inspiration for ” the Land of HonaLee” as frolicked in by Puff the Magic Dragon…or not, according to its author)

There were a few surfers out , but most were not having much luck. This pair however stole the show

After lunch we hiked up the Okalehao trail, which ascends the foothills of those mountains south of the beach. It was short but steep, slippery and extremely muddy

We then fitted in a quick swim at Anina Beach ( where we had originally planned to camp). Water was extremely shallow and sheltered but to our surprise we found a group of 4 sea turtles there, being groomed by a school of fish . They seemed not to mind a couple of snorkelers watching the ‘ cleaning station’ – very chilled creatures.
Rounded off the day with another sunset view from a cliff top over Hanalei bay ( sorry, you must be getting sick of these by now )
