Ooh, Can the Cannes trip…

The good weather finally broke , and faced with a damp Thursday we decided a road trip down to the coast would be good.

Passed through more excellent limestone geology like this –

Very taken by the wrinkly sedimentary layers. It looks as if someone in the early Carboniferous period hung out the landscape to dry, but neglected to iron it afterwards. ( To be fair, the Iron Age only came much later)

We drove SE for over an hour through the ‘Pre-Alps’ national park and arrived at Cabris, a neat town on steep hillside descending to the Cote d’Azur. This was our view to the coast ( Cannes towards the left , in deep mist) from a famous outlook point

Glorious view over Cannes and Côte d’Cloud
..and looking south .

It really wasn’t the right weather for sight-seeing, so after munching our sarnies and grabbing a drink, we Cannes-ed the whole idea and headed home.

Heavy rain later at the camp site covered everything in brown splodges (result of a sand storm ?) making the car look like we’d been rallying.

So I had a go at washing it, mainly to keep up with the OCD German next to us, who scrubbed his tent down daily.

Sadly , the rain returned overnight with the result that the next morning  ..

Can’t fight entropy.

  1. Iron age… how we laughed! Brilliant. But your preference for sedimentary rock is worrisome. In fact I’ve never met a more fickle geologist.
