Stage 4 – Downpour

Moving north to avoid bad weather, eh ?

Arrived here in Puy de Dôme yesterday afternoon after a scenic drive over the Massif Central. Nice weather to set up van/awning and enjoy a cuppa – we are in a hilltop site with cracking open views. Then at 7:30 there was a dramatic thunderstorm, and it’s been persisting down through the night. I think this might be a day for reading and quiet contemplation. It is Sunday, after all.

  1. General EU travel question to you whilst you are inside looking at the rain on your window! I assume that Lianne is travelling on her Dutch EU passport and you on your UK passport? As a spouse of an EU citizen, you are not subject to the standard 90 day restriction within 180 days in the Schengen area. Did the Dutch immigration officers stamp your passport when you first started the trip in the Netherlands? Are you actually staying over 90 days on this trip and if so I take it you will simply show Lianne’s passport as proof on the return departure exit point. Also even if less than 90 days, I assume that if you were to return to the EU shortly on another trip, none of this time with Lianne will count towards the next 90, even if solo? ( Bloody Brexit!)

    1. That’s news to me Steve – didn’t think I got any benefits ( other than the obvious joy of being with Lianne ) from marrying a Dutch national. In fact the Dutch immigration official did stamp my passport and very sternly reminded us that I was only permitted to stay 90 days when we arrived….
