(I VERY NEARLY titled this Sunday-lunch-themed post ” Always Cook on the Braai Side of Life “. Just as well I resisted that.)
First a better look at the Penguins : found a handy info board , and from closer up on the boardwalk we could see the various stages of moulting as they shed the baby fluff…

And then we saw a most bizarre animal – the Rock Hyrax, locally know as Dassie.

It’s an odd creature- bit wombatty ? Supposedly most closely related to the elephant (though this claim may just be the Dassie bigging itself up. If elephants never forget, how come you don’t find Dassies invited to pachyderm family reunions, eh ?). They posed nicely on the boardwalk, rested in trees, …and then rooted through the rubbish bins. Less cute.
Chapman’s Peak Drive
We took the toll road across to the west side of the peninsula on the way back, a winding set of hairpins chiselled from the side of the mountains 100 years ago. Beautiful views across Hout Bay

We grabbed Sunday lunch at a beachside restaurant in Camp Bay (my feeble justification for the Braai joke above, no photo’s to support it though), and then it was time to drop Chris at CPT airport – she has to go back to the game reserve (another couple of weeks reaching into large carnivores)

We got back to our Air B&B north of Capetown for a night of packing up and preparing for a big (final !) day tomorrow .
