Editorial Note : we have received a bulging postbag of complaints ( thank you, Mrs Trellis) about the over- reliance of this blog on unfunny, tortuous and generally unwise word-play and puns. We have therefore removed any trace of such trivia from this posting, despite the risk that this will reveal how little of any actual substance remains. Caveat lector.
Monday 16th
Zero visibility down at basecamp – perfect time to head up 3500m and see what’s above the clouds. Or maybe just IN them.

Now we realise our pass will get us up without a “mandatory reservation” it’s a freebie, so worth trying in case the clouds break, On the train up we get chatting to a family from Nevada. When we tell them about our caravan, they say “oh we have a trailer back home” – and produce pictures of a dual axle monstrosity, I would guess over 30′ long, with two bedrooms and a lounge. Perfect for a weekend in the Dales .
Knowing the system now, we defeat the one way circuit to find the “plateau viewing area” that we missed first time around

Then back inside we see some naff disneyfied models of cows wearing Tissot watches, and a walkway past rather more interesting timelines / descriptions of original conception of the rail line, from late 1800’s !
Plus there are some ice caves with random sculptures which were quite fun :

Good to see the whole set up, but I think two visits will do us for this summer
( Whoops – wrong again ! )
