Thursday – Robben Island Ferry Replacement Bus Service

High winds cancelled our planned boat trip to R I, not wholly unexpectedly.  As we have already driven into town before we discover this, Lianne instead books us tickets for the Hop On/Off red bus service, to get an overview of the wider city area without shifting our lazy arses too much.

Boarding it at stop 1, we had a very scenic journey to a sort of base-camp on Table Mountain ( stop #7).

From up here the sprawl of CPT city is clear.  Over 5m inhabitants , mostly  low rise, and a very industrialised dock area which generates a lot of the employment.

Back on the Big Red One, as far as Camps Bay ( doo-dah, doo-dah…) .

This is a STUNNINGLY beautiful beach, only slightly ruined by the gale force gusts whipping up sand into every crevice ( yes, I do mean INTO – very aggressive showering was required to get it all out). Only a total masochist would attempt to get to the sea ….

You FOOL

The bus then took us back to central Capetown –

Love the way the cloud seems to pour over the lip of Table Mnt before dissipating – like a dry ice effect
Time Ball – used to correct mariners’ instruments in some clever way I couldn’t understand

So that was nice.

Then at 10pm we drove to the airport to collect Chris – who has been given the weekend off to stay with us – HUZZAH !!
