The final 4 days of the trip were spent along the crinkly coastline of Zeeland.

Zierikzee –

Thursday we took a quick wander round this historic port. Knew nothing about it beforehand, and we’re rather taken with its narrow streets and

Veere ReVeersited

Friday we lunched with Lianne’s friend Saskia on the Veere quayside.

As is traditional when visiting Saskia, the first priority was “slopen” – ie find part of her house to smash up and remove. This time I fixed on a granite worktop with embedded sink unit, which had been leaning against her garden wall for several years. A bit of elbow grease, some hammering, a hernia-inducing drag through the house,  and we were able to heave it into a neighbour’s skip (she swore it would be fine with them 😬).

We only got one of the three granite worktops in, but that leaves some fun for next time.

Saturday was a trip up the Dom tower – 243 steps climb gets you a cracking panorama view. Slightly concerned to see that the lightning rod at the top was flapping loose from any earthing attachment, but fortunately there was no sign of incoming storms.

Then we had a look inside the Dom – hasn’t been functioning as a religious setting for many years, but is now hosting some art works and light historical info – very impressive space for that stuff.

And finally – a dip in the tropical North Sea ( 20 degrees at the moment !) , cycling to some nice sunsets, and walks with friends.  A proper relaxed holiday feel for the last weekend.
