All together now :
“Ooooh wooo-ooo-oooh,
St Sabin Pour Moi (Moi , Moi , Moi , Moi ..)” ( etc)
When P Bertrand sang those much loved lyrics, he was of course thinking of the magnificent views from this peak , looking east across the Rhone valley to the Alps that you can’t see because of the lousy weather.
We had a good yomp up it from near the campsite , stopping at an auberge for lunch ( too greasy , a/c to Lianne , but it did fuel the ascent). There’s some “proto-historic” notice board info there : stuff about early Celts piling stones on top of each other for unknown reasons , and what might be a sacrificial stone (” yet to be authenticated” ). And leaping forward to the 1600s, there’s a chapel at the top – which was locked, either to keep out people who climbed 600m to see it, or perhaps in case of a Celtic uprising from beyond the grave. So we enjoyed the views instead.

And on the way down I was surprised to find quite a few mushroom varieties, well ahead of their normal schedule – including our favourite edible – which I’ve just fried up with lemon for tea – mmmmmm lekker !

Nothing to do with the walk – here’s some fun stuff spotted the day before, on the drive down from Reims :

You passed a science museum and didn’t go in??!!
Nice valleys by the way.
Lundi – fermé 🙄
ah, yes. Of course
