Bits dropping off / sticking back on, part 16

Good news – Lianne and I jointly worked out how to remove and re-align one of the seating benches, which had jammed in its runners. So we can actually sleep on the bed now.

Less good news – the rear door of our car had started refusing to unlock. I fiddled with the child-lock settings a couple of days ago and thought I’d fixed it. Turned out today that what I actually done was to make it refuse to LOCK, instead. Not good when all our stuff is stored there in invitingly public parking spaces.    I tried and failed to reverse my ‘fix’, googled some similar issues , and pronounced it un-repairable without a garage / new part. Ignoring my clear technical analysis of the issue,  Lianne promptly fixed it. But only temporarily. It’s gone bad again today

Potentially very bad news – descending down hair pin bends of the Haute-Alpes area this afternoon , a squealing noise became more and more noticeable.  Thought at first it was just the tow-ball rubbing on the caravan hitch ( which just needs a dab of oil) but am now more convinced that I’ve worn out the brake shoes on the van wheels.  Which means we need to find a garage that can fix such things before we go much further, or it’ll shred the hub brakes completely .  Joy !

The hub brakes in question ( tambour, in French, I’ve just learned – as in the instrument ! )
