Ooooh yes. And something else from the Salzburg train trip. I had brought along a UK mains charger with Euro adapter plug so I could boost the phone battery on the way home.
Or so I thought.
Nah.
I’d just grabbed part of an old IBM set of global travel plugs from a cupboard. When I tried to use it on the train, there was a bit of a hitch.
Exhibit A , Male aspect :

2 prongs , just how these continental chappies like them. Went sweetly into the train socket.
Exhibit A. Female viewpoint :

Ah.
Why the hell has it also got 2 round holes , only one also having a sort of US flat pin addition ? And a key-shaped earth ? Who does that help ??? Not my UK charger at any rate.
Any ideas ?
Moral of the story –
If stuff was any use, it wouldn’t be hidden at the back of a cupboard.

It does say Patent Pending, probably still pending years later after they failed to figure out what possible application this could have.
Quite ! Maybe the next version will be Patent Nonsense
If ever we needed Professor Pat Pending…
Well according to Google Lens, it’s a universal adaptor – did you try plugging in a UK plug (I know it doesn’t look like one should fit)? I like the moral of the tale though.
According to me, Google Lens needs to revise its definition of ” Universal” – no way to fit a UK plug into it.
