Damp but undeterred

It was raining pretty persistently through the night and scheduled to continue like that for most of the day ( Saturday). So we decided our Mission was to max out the outrageously expensive travel cards we bought yesterday, and enjoy nice dry carriages. Started off with bus to the village, due to meet up with the train to Interlaken . Legendary Swiss efficiency fell at the first hurdle, the bus being too late to make the connection. But harking back to the original Mission, we just crossed the street and took the cable car up to the top of the valley, where we met this fine chap –

Sponsored by Red Bull ?

Then back down and on to Interlaken for groceries shopping. The train logo was notable; it appears to be an understandably -panicky mountain goat being roasted alive over a blazing fire –

RSPCA approved ?

Then back for lunch , after which we walked south up the valley, and got a different cable car .

Cracking view up the valley from cable car

This took us up to Gimmelwald – a picturesque traditional Alpine village still based on wooden chalets and cattle.

The bells ! The bells !

The only real sop to modern tourism there was a few guest houses, and a shop based on an honesty box in a familiar form ….

Rude not to pick up an award winning dark beer : “Black Monk“, which claims to originate in the Pension next door. But – hang on – a dark LAGER ? What devilry is this ??  Once our fridge has recovered enough to cool it down, I’ll let you know.

Ooh yes, that brings us to everyone’s favourite feature :

Bits Dropping Off (part 25)

Astonishingly , the van has survived over 800 miles of driving this trip without suffering any apparent BDO.  That’s despite two obstacles bashing into the undercarriage along the way ( not the driver’s fault, honest).

Until today ….

We don’t have a proper pitch yet at the campsite (waiting on someone leaving  tomorrow), so no electricity, so had to put the fridge onto its gas setting.   24 hours later, Lianne observes that it’s not very cold in there.  Hmm, seemed fine when we stopped over in France the day before. General fiddling about produces flashing error symbols but not much else.  I have the smart idea 🤓 💡 to reconnect it to the dodgy control panel ( the previous BDO) so we can at least see what the error IS. More fiddling about to get the external vent cover off, reconnect a loose ethernet cable hidden in there (!) and voilà ! Error code 51 – a new one on us . Basically means ‘the gas won’t light’. Which is odd cos it does fine for the gas hob.  Solution seems to be to eat everything in there quickly and move to the pitch with electric hook up ASAP.

Do you know, now I’ve gone to the bother of actually writing it all down, I can see that it’s not very interesting. Sorry.  I advise you to skip reading that whole section. Really sorry.

On a rainy evening in Sussex – we have been trying to help a Dutch woman re-charge her E-fiets- stretched Richard’s rusty Dutch quite a lot! Our gas is fine but think our hook up is a bit dodgy!

No I love the nerdy detail of the BDO features. I would like to say ‘let’s have more of them’, but I doubt that’s what you want to hear! :))
