Heading home ( part II)

Seems like we’ve been away from the country at a crucial time – not only missing the People’s Vote on that long-running Westminster Alternative Reality  show ( I’m a Liability, Get Me Out of Here) , but the whole of Euro24.

The General Election has delivered a genuinely hopeful result for the country, whereas the Euros ….felt like the whole Brexit experience re-visited.

We Held All the Cards after Taking Back Control with marginal results in the early stages, but then unforeseeably crashed out without a meaningful deal at the final step. Our cunning “luck of the draw  / final minute deliverance” strategy was undone by eventually having to play against a bunch of foreigners who were not only more skillful and well-prepared, but actually deployed experts, playing to their established strengths, in familiar roles on the pitch. Now, how could we have prepared for that ? I mean,  …. Nobody expects the Spanish in position.

Ah-hem.

So, after 7 weeks or so, it’s Coming Home, it’s Coming home – the Basecamp’s coming home.

Not too many Bits Dropping Off on the ferry
Made it as far as Harwich on the ferry yesterday, just the drive back up north facing us today

Although we didn’t achieve the original plan ( Swiss Alps), we did discover some very pleasant cycling / walking country round France ( the Verdon Gorge, the Morvan….). Also plenty of catching up with our extremely hospitable family and friends in Holland / Belgium.

Now let’s get the UK sorted out , eh ?

So till the next trip, that’s the final entry in the Captain’s Blog. We can all take a well-earned rest from appalling puns and over-stretched metaphor, and get back to …other stuff.  Cheers !
