Bargain Basement Belgian Bodging Battles British BDO

Yesterday, we left our Dynamic Duo hobbling towards the continent and hoping to avoid further incident.  Happily, the crossing was smooth and the car was fine.  Timings took a bit of a hit from the new Schengen area border controls (  finger printing, brain scans, psychological profiling – it’s impressively thorough)  which meant that, even with only 6 UK cars in front of us, it took 40 minutes to get to passport control. It’s just as well that this was a very lightly-loaded boat : it’s going to be fun in the school holidays.

Having set up the van, we had to find a local garage….

…for Local People

Luckily, Lianne’s sister knew the owners, so we got a traditional Belgian welcome.

Ingerrrland, did you say ??? Aaah, here’s nothing for you here – apart from chocolates, beer, chips and mussels. Tuck in ! “

And most impressive service : in 5 mins  the Bat-mobile was hoisted up and the flapping flap was re-attached to the chassis.

Lift-off

Just as Mr Bradley predicted, there didn’t seem to be any damage other than to the fixing of the plastic cover.

Drill, cable-tie, snip – and Jos is your uncle !

Total cost – 10 of your Belgian euros.

Never has so little been owed by so few people for a BDO solution 😁

  1. Quality repair! Got to love cable ties. Funnily enough, we had the Octavia serviced on Tuesday and they do a video message showing the checkup (well they have to justify the ludicrous amount they charge for an oil change somehow!). So I got to see the underside from front to back and a very familiar looking plastic cover at the rear. Looks like it protects the fuel tank. Glad it’s all fixed!

Can I complement your local Belgian mechanic on the tidiness of their workshop?
